bbs revival - back like vinyl

Bulletin Board Systems, or BBSes, ever since their earliest incarnations, have been the best way for private local communities, sometimes even global communities, to communicate. Elite or Public Domain, boards have brought people together in a way that the internet has never been able to. BBSes cannot be regulated by big business, they are the last stronghold of the underground against the rising tide of the corporate "information superhighway."

In recent years, however, the increased popularity of the internet has led to a decrease in BBS activity. IRC and the WWW have stolen ground from message conferences and file bases. Recognizing this decline in BBSing, we have taken it upon ourselves to create a resource for those interested in entering the BBS scene, setting up a BBS, or as concerned as we are about the fate of boards and the underground. The internet may be vast, but it has become cluttered, choked with capitalist garbage, just another extension of corporate America and ignorant legislation. Take a look around and get involved in the BBS scene. Welcome to the BBS Revival.
Site News

1/24/98 - Happy New Year! The links page has been redesigned, and the articles page is up with a few articles. More are on the way. The project is going well...

12/3/1997 - We've got the links page up... just a few links so far. We need you to help us out with some more.

12/1/1997 - Just getting the areas set up... nothing major. Our site is hosted with its own domain, though! We've got lots of ideas, so check back soon.

Essentially, this site is maintained as an outpost on the internet for people interested in the BBS scene. Ideally, you'll be able to find material that will help you, whether you run a board or just like to call them. We'd like to try to keep the layout simple, no flashy graphics, so that this site stays easily accessable. Expect this site to always be under construction as we add new information. Come back often to check for new updates.

In order to help you navigate this site, we've broken it into areas. In the Articles section, you'll find helpful texts relating to all different aspects of BBSing, from modding to BBS ethics. Look for links to modding sites and other web pages of interest to BBSers, visit the Links page. In the Files area, we've collected some choice files that'll help you either as a sysop or a user. To add your BBS name and number to our list, go to the Global BBS List. Major updates to each area will usually be posted in the Site News, but check every now and then for minor additions. Hopefully, you'll find something new every time you visit this site.

We really need articles, links, and BBS listings to help make this resource more complete. For specific submission instructions, please visit the area in question, or send email to the staff.
